February 7, 2006: I attended my weekly acting class last night. The discussion was on different ideas and suggestions for the audition. I have often thought of actually auditioning for a part in a play some time in the future. The teacher then wanted us to audition for a part. She would be the director and we had about 5 minutes to prepare the monologue that she handed out.
The monologue was from the play Vincent in Brixton, a play about the life of Vincent Van Gogh from 1873 to 1876. The monologue was a very serious part where Vincent is confessing his love to Ursula. Since I am always joking around this was a real stretch for me. I was very nervous and this nervousness helped me convey the nervousness Vincent must have felt.
What an experience. I could have done many things differently, and in fact will have the opportunity to do it again next week. The director gave me some suggestions, and I look forward to being able to see if I can really deliver a convincing Vincent next week.
